I’ve been wanting to lose weight for awhile. I started gaining weight when I met Matt. We’d be out and about and we would order fast food or go out to eat. It all became a habit and it’s been so since ‘02. I wont sit here and blame fast food or sue Mcdonalds or anything. We’re fat because we lust after food and when we’re ordering we become gluttons.
Don’t be a heavy drinker or stuff yourself with food. It will make you feel drowsy, and you will end up poor with only rags to wear.
- Proverbs 23:20-21
This scripture is so true! Because of our gluttony we have become poor. Matt and I don’t spend much on clothes, I don’t spend much on decorating the house. Where does our money go? It goes towards fast food, and it’s sad to admit. I buy groceries and yet we still stop and get fast food on the way home. Why? Because I’m lazy. Instead of coming home and cooking a small meal to help my hunger, I become a glutton and I want fast food and a lot of it!
You lazy people can learn by watching an anthill.
- Proverbs 6:6
Newton’s first law of motion states that an object in motion tends to remain in motion, and an object at rest tends to remain at rest. This law applies to people. While some are naturally driven to complete projects, others are apathetic, requiring motivation to overcome inertia! Laziness, a lifestyle for some, is a temptation for all. But the Bible is clear that because the Lord, who is a working God, ordained work for man, laziness is sin.
Other than ants being annoying creatures they are hard workers. Have you ever sat and watched an anthill? They are always moving and carrying something while at it! Tons of little workers, working away building their home. They never stop, they are always in motion, as should we be. If a tiny lil ole ant can do it, we can too! Keep in mind they do rest at some point. Rest in the Lord.
I think laziness is a start of going down hill and then gaining weight. Proverbs has a lot to say about laziness.
If you want too much and are too lazy to work, it could be fatal.

-Proverbs 21:25
A door turns on its hinges, but a lazy person just turns over in bed.
-
- Proverbs 26:14
Don’t be lazy and keep saying, “There’s a lion outside!”
-
- Proverbs 26:13
A lazy person says, “I am smarter than everyone else.”
-
- Proverbs 26:16
What are these random scriptures saying? Prov. 21:25 is basically talking about lusting. You want it, but you wont work for it. I want this, I want that. Where can I get the money to get it? That sort of thinking will get you no where. Believe me, I know from experience.
Prov. 26:14 means he’s getting bodily ease and just wants to lay in bed and not move forward. Prov. 26:13 is talking about making excuses for the laziness. I can’t go do work, there’s a lion outside! And Prov. 26:16 is very clear in what it says.
There is no room for laziness in the life of a Christian. In our new nature, we are motivated to diligence and productiveness out of a love for our Savior who redeemed us. We are a new creation and we should strive to be more like Jesus. Jesus wasn’t idle. =)
Having all these things come to mind recently, has got me to thinking. Here are steps of losing weight. If I follow what the bible says about gluttony, laziness, and lusting I can beat this! I know cutting back on what I eat and exercising will help me lose weight. But what do I do? I say there is a lion outside and I can’t do it! Us humans seem to make excuses for everything.
Physical appetites are an analogy of our ability to control ourselves. If we are unable to control our eating habits, we are probably also unable to control other habits such as those of the mind (lust, covetousness, anger) and unable to keep our mouth from gossip or strife. We are not to let our appetites control us, but rather we are to have control over our appetites.
I believe by reading the bible, staying in heavy prayer, I can beat this and lose weight! No more making excuses of why I can’t excersize or eat less. God wants us healthy, God wants us to keep our temple clean. By over eating and eating the wrong things, I’m damaging my temple. It’s time to clean things up!
