Losing Weight God’s Way

Posted by: Nicci Keathley in Uncategorized 2 Comments »

I’ve been wanting to lose weight for awhile. I started gaining weight when I met Matt. We’d be out and about and we would order fast food or go out to eat. It all became a habit and it’s been so since ‘02. I wont sit here and blame fast food or sue Mcdonalds or anything. We’re fat because we lust after food and when we’re ordering we become gluttons.

Don’t be a heavy drinker or stuff yourself with food. It will make you feel drowsy, and you will end up poor with only rags to wear.

- Proverbs 23:20-21

This scripture is so true! Because of our gluttony we have become poor. Matt and I don’t spend much on clothes, I don’t spend much on decorating the house. Where does our money go? It goes towards fast food, and it’s sad to admit. I buy groceries and yet we still stop and get fast food on the way home. Why? Because I’m lazy. Instead of coming home and cooking a small meal to help my hunger, I become a glutton and I want fast food and a lot of it!

You lazy people can learn by watching an anthill.

- Proverbs 6:6

Newton’s first law of motion states that an object in motion tends to remain in motion, and an object at rest tends to remain at rest. This law applies to people. While some are naturally driven to complete projects, others are apathetic, requiring motivation to overcome inertia! Laziness, a lifestyle for some, is a temptation for all. But the Bible is clear that because the Lord, who is a working God, ordained work for man, laziness is sin.

Other than ants being annoying creatures they are hard workers. Have you ever sat and watched an anthill? They are always moving and carrying something while at it! Tons of little workers, working away building their home. They never stop, they are always in motion, as should we be. If a tiny lil ole ant can do it, we can too! Keep in mind they do rest at some point. Rest in the Lord.

I think laziness is a start of going down hill and then gaining weight. Proverbs has a lot to say about laziness.

If you want too much and are too lazy to work, it could be fatal.

  • -Proverbs 21:25

A door turns on its hinges, but a lazy person just turns over in bed.

  • - Proverbs 26:14

Don’t be lazy and keep saying, “There’s a lion outside!”

  • - Proverbs 26:13

A lazy person says, “I am smarter than everyone else.”

  • - Proverbs 26:16

What are these random scriptures saying? Prov. 21:25 is basically talking about lusting. You want it, but you wont work for it. I want this, I want that. Where can I get the money to get it? That sort of thinking will get you no where. Believe me, I know from experience.

Prov. 26:14 means he’s getting bodily ease and just wants to lay in bed and not move forward. Prov. 26:13 is talking about making excuses for the laziness. I can’t go do work, there’s a lion outside! And Prov. 26:16 is very clear in what it says.

There is no room for laziness in the life of a Christian. In our new nature, we are motivated to diligence and productiveness out of a love for our Savior who redeemed us. We are a new creation and we should strive to be more like Jesus. Jesus wasn’t idle. =)

Having all these things come to mind recently, has got me to thinking. Here are steps of losing weight. If I follow what the bible says about gluttony, laziness, and lusting I can beat this! I know cutting back on what I eat and exercising will help me lose weight. But what do I do? I say there is a lion outside and I can’t do it! Us humans seem to make excuses for everything.

Physical appetites are an analogy of our ability to control ourselves. If we are unable to control our eating habits, we are probably also unable to control other habits such as those of the mind (lust, covetousness, anger) and unable to keep our mouth from gossip or strife. We are not to let our appetites control us, but rather we are to have control over our appetites.

I believe by reading the bible, staying in heavy prayer, I can beat this and lose weight! No more making excuses of why I can’t excersize or eat less. God wants us healthy, God wants us to keep our temple clean. By over eating and eating the wrong things, I’m damaging my temple. It’s time to clean things up!

Idle

Don’t be afraid. I am with you. Don’t tremble with fear. I am your God. I will make you strong, as I protect you with my arm and give you victories.
Isaiah 41:10

This scripture can fit to any problem you might be going through. Lost your job? Don’t be afraid, God is with you. Boyfriend/Girlfriend broke up with you? Don’t be afraid, God is with you. Death in the family? Don’t be afraid, God is with you!

I came across this scripture today, turned right to it for some reason. I think God had a hand in it. ;-) It’s amazing how blunt God can be about things sometimes, and other times He takes awhile to show you what He wants for your life.

I’m very thankful God is is always there. I have had so many people leave my side during the years. Many people said I was to much of a handful or I wasn’t ‘cool’ enough. God doesn’t care, He’s always there. No matter what we might do or say, or how the way we look. He’s always there! I’m so grateful for this!
Here lately I’ve been wondering what does God want from me? I in a way feel I have ran away, because I haven’t been faithful to him. I haven’t been reading my bible like I should, I haven’t been praying like I should. I feel I’ve drifted away from God, but He hasn’t drifted away from me. PRAISE GOD!

I am the LORD your God. I am holding your hand, so don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.
-Isaiah 41:13

No matter what issue you might be going through, God can help you with it. I’m not saying, you can pray and be healed that second. It’s a process. You have to pray and stay in God’s word, that which I have not. I have this weird feeling inside of me because I know I’m not doing the Godly thing. I feel like I’m at a standstill, which I am. Because I’m not opening myself up to God and letting Him make me grow spiritually. It’s like a flower has to be watered to grow. Us as Christians need God’s word to grow. How else will we learn?

If you are lazy and sleep your time away, you will starve.
Proverbs 19:1
5

This scripture is talking about being idle. What is being idle? When you are at a stop light, waiting for the light to change, your car is idling. It’s just sitting there with the engine on, going no where. That’s how Christians can get at times. We do our normal routine and we forget about God. We forget to read our bible and pray. And when we give in we become more idle and start doing things we should not, the more we slip the further away from God we get.

Keep away from worthless and useless talk. It only leads people farther away from God.
2 Tim. 2:16

Being lazy is no different from being a troublemaker.
-Prov. 18:9

No one likes to be called lazy, but I believe Christians get that way at times. I know I have been lazy with God. I have been idle and an idle mind will get me no where.Thank you Lord for this conviction! =)

Why would anyone want to support this? People are in such a hurry to have sex, that’s all the world seems to think about all the time. If you think you’re ‘grown’ enough to have sex, then you are grown enough to take care of a baby. And if you don’t want that baby, give it up for adoption. Don’t murder it, just because you made a mistake.

All In All

Let me start off by saying, thanks for reading my blog. I’m just going to pick up where I left off at nkeathley.wordpress.com. If you haven’t read my blogs on that site, please do so. My newer blogs on this site will make more sense that way. =)

This week has been long and hard. We’ve been trying to visit different churchs, but so far God hasn’t called us to any. These churchs we have visited have been great churchs, they are just not for us at this moment.

It’s crazy because I still feel called to South Texarkana Baptist. I love and miss the people there, but at the same time we can’t go back there. Matt and I have been praying hard. Earlier we just got on our knees and begged God to please show us what he wants from us. We know in our hearts we are called to South Texarkana, but we can’t work under the pastor there. We pray that God eithers moves him or he sincerely repents for what he has done. We pray that if that time comes, God gives us some clear sign that it’s true repentence and not just a disguise to get us back.

This whole situation is uncomfy, but sometimes God wants us that way. No matter what happens we will follow God. And we’re staying focused on him and leaving the path between us open. What I mean is, we’ve asked for his forgiveness and have no hard hearts.

When a heart grows hard, it makes it even harder for God to speak to us. Because we’re just thinking about number one and focusing on our needs instead of God. I believe it’s important to pray without ceasing and read the bible each day. Because if you are trying and living for God, he will reward you for that.

All in All, I know God is just. I know he wont put anymore on us than we can handle. We are going through this for a reason and we’re thankful for this. God is good! If you are following him and he takes you away from something, he wont leave you hanging. God is always there and his arms are wide open, he’s beside us all the way.

Who knows what God has in store. Lord, prepare us and help us.

A lot of people have it worse than we do. So, we’ll count our blessings and be thankful no matter what comes our way. God’s timing is better than ours, in a way it’s worth the wait. =)
